hybrid or e-learning, or maybe blended… difficult to decide!!
Probably a lot of you are wandering whether the wave of online courses and education will benefit your future and what is the best possible way to use them.
Here is an explanation of three type of learning:
1. Web-enhanced courses
Face-to-face courses have a presence in the learning management system and Blackboard.
They have web accessible materials: syllabus, readings, discussion questions, quizzes, etc., add the face-to-face class experience and are nice ways to web-enhance your course for students.
2. Hybrid, blended and flipped courses
Hybrid and blended courses (“flipping the classroom”) provide more robust online teaching and learning activities that typically replace face-to-face class meetings. They provide unique content, not delivered but built upon in the classroom.
The face-to-face sessions are re-designed to skip traditional lecture delivery and provide more in-depth discussion, problem solving, or unique learning opportunities for students.
With these new formats active learning for all types of students is provided. Typically 50% or more of the materials are delivered online.
3. Online courses
Online courses are delivered 100% online. They provide opportunities for students at the actual university and for the ones that take a distance learning course from wherever they are.
Online courses are not a simple capture of a lecture to be delivered later. Online courses are a unique opportunity for student to interact with the instructor, as well as an excellent opportunity for a student-to-student interaction. They also give excellent opportunity for a supervised exam and assessment measures during learning.
